Implementation of Visualization and Modeling Technologies for Transportation Construction

State departments of transportation (DOTs) increasingly use visualization and modeling technologies for delivering projects across the United States. Advanced innovative have ability to improve various construction processes tasks while making process more efficient productive. Visualization technologies, which include building information infrastructure, light detection ranging, virtual reality, augmented are becoming commonplace in construction. Yet, these varies among state DOTs. The intent this study is investigate This employed a triangulation research methodology including an extensive literature review, survey questionnaire DOTs, seven case studies. Results show that 92% DOTs Then, 81% constructability reviews, 38% them documentation as-builts simulating bridge structure construction, 35% quality management, inspections, monitoring progress work. main barriers using legal concerns with digital models as contract documents, incompatibilities software hardware between contracted parties, appropriate knowledge, skills, abilities required findings from provides valuable approach their implementation delivery.
